What turned me…

I was(and still am) a huge Ringo fan. When I became a Beatles fan in ’85, Ringo was my favorite.

Then I saw and heard George, when Cloud Nine came out..and, well…I was kind of swayed…

That’s a gorgeous picture of George you posted! I love what you wrote about being swayed over to George. I liked Paul at first (when I was 6/7 yrs old ….cuz he seemed to be less scary than the others) LOL …Then I saw “Let It Be” and soon after “The Concert for Bangladesh” and I switched to George and never turned back. 🙂 (Altho I LOVE them all!) 🙂

Funny, how I was never a “George fan” yet was always. By that I mean, when i first saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, I instantly became a Ringo fan—but always a BEATLES fan. Then there was a point when “cool” was defined by John—so, he was my fav. But I was a “frustrated drummer” who took up the bass guitar—so, Paul needed to be idol as he was the “saint of my instrument.”

When the Beatles started to split and all the talk that pitted Paul against John—I sided with John. But then Yoko became such a thorn, so I was torn. I think it was then that I went back to being a BEATLES fan. Especially as they splintered into solo acts that I could not really “get into” for any length of time.

Yeasr and years later, I saw this awesome Beatles cover band (where they made no attempt to “look” like them only play like them—those look alike bands give me the CREEPS!). It was that night hearing George’s riffs so LIVE and LOUD and CLEAR that it became clear I was a fan of THE BEATLES and that included George as that most dependable player, he was. I was a George fan all along.

It was 45 years ago today I was given 2 tickets to see The Beatles in Philadelphia for my 14th birthday. Recently I was looking at the program for that show. I had meticulously written down all the opening acts and each song that Paul, John and Ringo sang – but I noticed when it came to George I only wrote, “he sang a song he has composed for the new album”. Obviously in 1966 my brain turned to mush at the sight, sound or thought of George Harrison. And I must say, it continues to this day!
I adored the essence of the man then and for me, his essence lingers.

From the first time I saw George on the Ed Sullivan show, he has always been my favorite. He has always been the favorite of my cousins as well as my baby sister. Most of the kids in the neighborhood, George was the one preferred. His guitar playing was breathtaking.
When we saw the Beatles in Atlantic City in 1964 we loved George even more after looking at him through binoculars that a lady was passing around, he was beautiful.
