Blue Boy!

A couple of things to point out here:

1)Ringo is still a smoker.

2)George is wearing the jacket to the suit he wears in the WIlburys’ “She’s My Baby” video.

LOVE the jacket!!! George looks really good in blue, especially that shade (and I’m not only saying that because it’s my favorite color πŸ˜‰ ).

Very cute picture of George with Ringo
Re: 1) Ringo was still a smoker:
I believe both Ringo and George were smoking at that time. I read that Ringo quit but George smoked up until he was diagnosed with throat cancer, on and off. Ringo, I believe, had a stronger immune system to have survived his childhood illnesses, thus he survived his smoking habit. George on other hand, reading about his family history, may have inherited a weaker immune system. George seemed to have encountered more illnesses during his life time, at least this is the impression I get from reading about him, (don’t know for sure).
To all bloggers: If you smoke please quit.

Actually, yes, they both were. I’m unclear as to when Ringo stopped, but yes, unfortunately, being diagnosed with cancer apparently made George quit.

George did seem to have had a lot of illnesses..I got the same impression.

Well, I know that George got sick just about every year as a kid, right around his birthday. I think he spent some time in the hospital one year.

There’s a very amusing article out there, scanned from a ’60s teen magazine, in which he describes the whole ordeal. And we all know he was sick during their 1964 US visit (which, of course, was right around his birthday! He must have thought he was doomed πŸ™‚ ).

It’s sad that Ringo didn’t quit by … this looks like the ’80s? Maybe a little later than that? There’s an interview George and Ringo did on a TV show whose name I can’t remember, but it struck me that Ringo was smoking through most of the interview and George wasn’t. Until the ’80s, did we EVER see that?

If George could quit (seemingly the heaviest smoker of all of them), certainly Ringo could. Does anyone know if Ringo still smokes? I’m assuming Paul doesn’t.

I’d always heard Ringo was sick a lot and hospitalized for a burst appendix as a kid, not George. And I think George said he quit smoking some time in the 80s, though people have relapses.
Andy Kaufman and Dana Reeve never smoked and both died from lung cancer.

        Ringo had the burst appendix.

George had tonsilitis every year on his birthday, was hospitalized as a child for nehphritis for several weeks, and had either the flu or strep throat during the Beatles’ first trip to America.

I’ve seen pics of George well into the nineties with a ciggy, but RIngo definitely stopped and warns against the habit now. *sigh* if only George had stopped sooner.

Oh Ringo clean up the table there’s ashes all around you! Wonder if George was still smoking then – it gets me really upset when I see a cigarette in his hands (or for that matter anyone’s) don’t people realize these are deadly?

Having been a ex-smoker glad I didn’t continue with the habit. I’ve been ‘clean’ since 1976 and hope to keep it that way.
