George Pwns the Reporters.

Fame didn’t suit George well; while Paul was a good PR man, Ringo went with the flow, and John always had good humor and a wall of wisecracks for protection, poor George seemed to get really grumpy and defensive at times. Can’t say I blame him. Here he, then-girlfriend Pattie and John and Cynthia are heading off on their trip to Tahiti and George snaps a little in front of reporters (don’t worry, the sound eventually comes on).

Poor George. I don’t blame him… he just wanted the reporters to leave them alone. Some people need a little space, but fame makes that rather difficult. 😦

I really don’t think that he was being grumpy at all. He had every right to say what he said. He was not rude. He was nice but annoyed. Pattie was getting all kinds of death threats from fans, at that time, just because she was dating George. They should have left them alone. He was trying to protect her. If not for the press maybe she would not have gotten so many. I like the way he said “goodbye” to the press and press said “thank you George”.

He said once in later years that he never wanted to be famous. He wanted to be successful, but not famous. He really does seem to have been a very solitary kind of person, who prefers to be around his close friends and family and otherwise be left alone. Friar Park was his haven for just that reason, I think…

Most people crave fame, but nobody – NOBODY – would cope with it of the magnitude they got it. I have no idea how Paul and Ringo are still so normal and sane today, Paul especially – I dunno how he does it. George as well, always so humble and down-to-earth, it’s amazing really. Celebrities today don’t get a FRACTION of what the Beatles got, and they all seem to go mad. I mean, the Beatles had HALF of the whole Australian city, OUTSIDE THEIR HOTEL! Who else gets that kind of adoration… and imprisonment?

I don’t blame George at all, and he’s actually pretty polite about it here. He threw a drink at a reporter once, didn’t he? Lol. “He was a very nasty old man and I thought I’d baptise him.”

Lol, the reporter is apparently on a first-name basis with George.

On another note I like how at the end it shows them walking through the airport and it looks kinda slow-motionish and awesome.

I read in a book once fans in England confronted Patti a few times and George came to her defense. I wonder if he ever received negative comments when he married Olivia due to the fact she is of Mexican descent? I know they gave John a hard time regarding Yoko, although it is hard to feel bad for her since she is a homewrecker, but she should not have been insulted due to her ethnic background. That is nice Cynthia and Patti still speak kindly about their deceased ex-spouses. I wonder if they still stay in touch and share memories.
