Estelle Bennett of The Ronettes and George.

This morning I remembered reading someplace that George had dated one of the Ronettes. A few clicks into Google, and look what we have.:)

I think I saw it in “The Love You Make”.

Yes,I’m quite over participating in communities. I think I really prefer Facebook, where most of the people I see in real life and if there’s any weirdness that gets mistranslated through the internet, we can talk about it later face to face. But I do cherish the good internet buddies I’ve met like you.:)

Have a great Xmas–glad you liked the card! 🙂

Yeah, I remember seeing a picture or two where the caption was Estelle talking about how she had dated George before he married Pattie. I can’t find any really solid info other than those pictures and their captions, though.

George and The Ronette seen next to him “hung out together” during The Beatles’ 1966 North American tour.

George dated Estelle for a while. I have an article in an old copy of Ebony magazine that touches briefly on the fact.

I read they dated during the first year of Beatlemania. I would like to see the Ebony article too.

Good Grief, I can only imagine the controversy and outrage if their relationship developed into marriage! After all interracial marriages were illegal in the early 60’s. That was cool they stayed friends after both married. I know the Ronnettes toured with them at Candlestick Park during their last tour. That is sad Estelle passed away a while back due to colon cancer. She was also mentally ill. Ronnie thanked George and John when the Ronnettes were inducted into the Hall of Fame.

I read that Ronnie and Estelle’s mom chaperoned the Ronnettes during their touring gigs. According to Ronnie in her bio, she formed a warm relationship with both the Beatles and Stones, she became a like a second mom to the groups. In fact, she use to cook breakfast for the Stones when the group was in NY. In fact, Nedra dated Mick, and Ronnie briefly dated Keith.

Correction: Nedra briefly dated Brian, Estelle dated Keith.

Since both married in 1966, I don’t think they were fooling around. I read they did date between 63-64. I’m sure they stayed good friends. I wonder if the Stones or the two surviving Beatles made any comments in regards to Estelle’s tragic death in 2009. I read in an interview, Nedra mentioned that she briefly dated the late Brian Jones, and was devastated by his tragic death.

Here are two cool links relating to articles about Ronnie. She mentions her close friendship with the Beatles and Stones in their youth.

In this article, she briefly mentions how George helped her on the 70’s song, “Try Some, Buy Some”. I’ve heard it on YouTube, it’s OK.

The Ronettes were support act to The Beatles on their first US tour in ’64 i believe, and they did have a thing going before he met Pattie. Ronnie Spector had flings with, not only Mick Jagger and possibly Keith Richards but John Lennon too.

According to Ronnie, she and he sister only dated members of both groups, but it was chaste, nothing sexual occurred, at least that’s waht she stated. If you listen to Keith, he and Ronnie did sleep together. Who knows. It seems Estelle and George parted on good terms.
